List the possible rational rootsof P(x) given by the Rational Root Theorem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[P(x)=x^3+4^2+10x+6\]

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

well it'd be +/- (factors of coefficient of x^0 / factors of coefficient of highest power of x) hence here its is +/- (factors of 6 / factors of 1) +/- (1,2,3,6)/(1) any of all permutations and combinations of numerator and denominator can be a root

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

ohh..is it 4^2 or something else?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep its 4^2 Thank you very much though, this helped me!

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

well..for 4^2 ,,the constant term is not 6 but is 6+4^2 i.e. 22 so ans will be +/- (1,2,11,22)/(1) sorry for above..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm, that's weird because I checked the book I'm doing this from and you were apparently correct the first time. Answer:\[\pm1,\pm2,\pm3,\pm6\]

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

in that case that should be 4^2 ..please re-check..could be x^2 or 4x^2 etc..

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

i mean that shouldn't be 4^2 **

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh i'm sorry you're right. I misread the first time you asked me what it was. I checked it again and it's 4x^2. Thank you!

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

glad to help ^_^
