Describe what happens to the particles of a liquid, in terms of movement and kinetic energy, as it is heated to its boiling point, including whether this is a physical or chemical change.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is a physical change...it doesnt become something different, the atoms are only moving quicker and expanding.

As the liquid is heated, the kinetic energy increases (kinetic energy is directly related to temperature). The molecules are moving faster and faster until they finally have enough kinetic energy to overcome the intermolecular forces and leave the surface of the liquid, becoming a gaseous molecule.
