Can ammonia gas dissolve in water? Does diffusion of ammonia gas happen in water?
Yes, at certain temperatures and up until a certain concentration, Ammonia gas can dissolve in water.. And yes, as far as I know it does diffuse, though I can't be sure of that because we've only looked at this when the ammonia gas is added to the water inside a scrubber...
ammonia gas is very very reactive with water, believe me! when its near water it reacts with it to form NH4OH very quickly, i especially know cause in my high school a friend left ammonia reactor open and i lost my smell due to NH3 reaction with my mucosal in nose but i didnt die cause i took a part of my lab coat and put water on it and kept breathnig trough that...
actually it reacts to NH4+ and OH-... but you have a point... under most circumstances it does react... I dont know how that could have happened in your nose or how breating trough a lab coat would help if its reacting inside your nose but still... you have a point on the reaction part :p
it helped in the way that i didnt breath in more NH3 cause it reacted with water in lab coat...
ooh of course.. should have thought of that... luckily you did when it mattered, I would probably have freaked out on the idea of a reaction lile that in my body alone and died the most freaky death ever...
all i can tell you is that it is painful as hell
Ammonia is very soluble in water. Think of all the nice H bonds it can form with water! Kryten, what a story!
