An artificial satellite is moving in circular orbit around the earth with speed equal to half the magnitude of escape vel. from the earthIf the satellite is stopped suddenly in its orbit and allowed to fall freely on the earth ,find the speed with which it hits the surface . In this ques what path it will follow .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also find the height of the satellite above earth's surface

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i ound out the height from earth's surface. i need only the velocity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

found*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess it will have 0 velcoity as in galaxy there is no atmosphere

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it will have velocity but no accelaration..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are askin velocity when it hits the ground

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess before falling no velocity and when it starts falling it came to contact to atmosphere and falls like freely falling body

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but at that height, accelaration due to gravity will be different..we have to use energy conservation to solve this problem but i still dont get the answer..answer is 8 m/s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess @apoorvk can help us ;)

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

I find: \(\Large v_{crash}=\sqrt{gR_{Earth}}=8\;km\,s^{-1}\)
