Arianna kicks a soccer ball off the ground and into the air with an initial velocity of 42 feet per second. Assume the starting height of the ball is 0 feet. Approximately, how long does it take until the soccer ball hits the ground again?
this is pure math right? no physics involved?
2u/g
2.6
you dont show the angle (to the ground) of that velocity, i cant work out the answer!
smart :P but that's not given :P
if thats the vertical velocity then angle is not needed
vertical is the angle!
and i think we can assume dat its the vertical velocity, or the question cant be solved
yah it shud say dat its projected vertically
so, bad question. :)
Solving Real-World Problems Involving Quadratic Equations
Arianna kicks a soccer ball off the ground and into the air with an initial velocity of 42 feet per second. Assume the starting height of the ball is 0 feet. Approximately, how long does it take until the soccer ball hits the ground again? 1.3 secs 2.6 secs 16.0 secs 27.6 secs
Better?
ya its 2.6
well my method to solve the prob is a physical way, which needs the angle. can you tell me how to work out 2.6??
Yeah, how'd you get 2.6
Well it's more of a common sense guess becuase soccer balls don't stay in the air for 16 seconds or 27.6 and 42 feet per second is not gonna stay in the air for just one second. Also it matches up with A.Avinash_Goutham's answer.
I've played soccer for 10 years
it can be 1.3 :P a gal can kick a ball that way........real world prob :P
Well if it is a question about when it will land it's not gonna go into the goal
i think da answer wud be 27.6 cos 42 feet per second is pretty fast and so it will stay in air for quite long
um y is it 27.6?
wat's the value of in fps?
oh oops, my bad, m wrong
i divided insted of multiplying
You can get that by using the formula h(t)= -16t^2+vt+s. V is the velocity ( in this case starting speed) and s is the starting elevation. You'd get -16t^2+42t=0. Then turn that into -16t^2=-42t. Then divide by -16t. It would be t=2.6
