in the binary ionic compound lithium iodine , Lil, which element forms anions ? Why ?
anions are ones that gain electrons and cations lose electrons. Can you figure out which ones are those lithium iodide ?
no i have no idea what im doing here !
according to theory of bond formation:in LiI .Li is metal and I is non metal . From the electronic configuration of Li and I .Li has one electron in outermost orbit and I has & electron in the outermost orbit .hence Li gives up one electron for obtaining the inert gas structure (He) and I takes one electron for obtaining inert gas structure like Kr.so the after giving up one electron positive charge increases by one in Li(initially it is neutral due to no of electron=no of proton ).hence Li becomes positively charged i.e cation similarly in I negative charge increases by one hence it becomes negatively charged i.e anion.
omg thts alot of writing ! is tht the answer ???
or ????
why don't try reading and understanding that ?:)
i read it but im still lost on what to write as my answer ! i saw the part where it says Li becomes positively charged and all tht
sorry as u can c im not so bright !!!!! im stupid as hell in physics !
u dere???
