OpenStudy (maaz):

Which is the Strongest Bronsted Acid a) H2SO4 B)HNO3 c)CH3COOH d) H3PO4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

CH3COOH

OpenStudy (maaz):

how it may have more hydrogen atoms but all are not ionizable..... please give reasons

OpenStudy (anonymous):

monoprotic atoms cant be ionizable as per the books and H atoms are ionizable

This is the explanation first we will consider the acidic strength of h-f,h-ch3,h-nh2,and h-oh because these four are from same period means the central atom is of same period in periodic table (carbon,nitrogen,oxygen,fluorine)... in these four the polarity of bond between hydrogen and central atom decides the strength of acidic character....so with increase in electronegativity of central atom the polarity of bond increases and hence acidic strength also increases.......so h-f is the strongest in these four then h-oh then h-nh2 then h-ch3... but for elements of same group (like here fluorine and bromine are from same group of periodic table)bond strength dominates over the polar nature thus down the group as size of atoms increases bond strength decreases and hence acidic strength increases as now h+ can be easily liberated ...... so in between h-f and h-br, h-br is the strong acid ....... so final order in creasing strength is h-br,,,h-f,,,h-oh,,,h-nh2,,,h-ch3....
