OpenStudy (lasttccasey):

Which solid is likely to be least soluble in water? A) CH3OH B) Na2CO3 C) MgBr2 D) C6H12O6 (polar) E) SiO2

OpenStudy (lasttccasey):

I'm going to guess A? Its nonpolar and has a CH, though it does have an OH group.. I wasn't sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i will go with SiO2 without any concept i m saying this because sand never get dissolve in water isntd...

OpenStudy (matt101):

A) is an alcohol and therefore polar, so it will dissolve in water B) is an ionic compound and so will dissolve in water C) is an ionic compound and so will dissolve in water D) is glucose (or one of several other sugars with the same chemical formula), which has a whole bunch of alcohol groups and therefore will dissolve readily in water E) is a covalent compound and so will not dissolve as readily in water I will go with SiO2 as well, "with a concept" :P
