The heart rate for puppies are normally distributed with a mean heart rate of 180 beats per minuter (60-160 bpm for most adult dogs) with a standard deviation of 6 bpm. a. What percentage of puppies will have heart rates of less than 187 bpm? b. What percentage of puppies will have heart rates between 175 and 187 bpm? c. If 500 puppies are examined, how many would you expect to have a heart rate of less than 187 bpm? d. 10% of all puppies will have a heart rate greater than what value? for part A I got (187-180)/(6)=7/6=1.1667 I need help with part B and C and D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you alowed to use a graphics calulator dat calculates the probablity for you or do you have to the normal distribution chart?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For part B would is be... (175-180)/(6)-(187/180)/(6)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mertsj can you help? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My calculator needs batteries.. :/ I've been using my phone to calculate it all..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for part b)find probablity for less than 175, and take dat away from 1 then find the probability for greater than 187 and take that value away from the previous value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for part c) just multiply the probability you got in part a) with 500

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer you got for part A seems wrong, use a normal distribution chart if you'r not sure how to do it on ur phone

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.879 does that seem better?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah that seems right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about part d? and thank you for helping me with part a,b, and c I got the answers:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is part d greater than 187bpm?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it should be greater than 187..... you have to use inverse normal distribution, m not sure how you can do that one without a calculator, you'll have to calculate the Z score first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thank you!

np :)
