A bag contains four red balls and eight yellow balls. The balls are identical except for the color. Five of the balls are randomly selected one at a time without replacement. a. Find P(4 of the 5 are red) Show or explain your answer. c. What is the probability that the colors of the selected balls, in order, are yellow - red - yellow - red - yellow?

what are you supposed to do exactly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find the probability that 4 out of 5 balls are red when 5 are drawn without replacement

For question c, you have to split up the probabilities into individual steps. For the first choice, the probability of selecting a yellow ball is 8/12, or 2/3. The probability of choosing a red ball second is then 4/11. Next, the probability of choosing a yellow ball third is 7/10. The probability of choosing a red ball after that is 3/9, or 1/3. Finally, the probability of choosing a yellow ball after that is 6/8, or 3/4. To determine the overall probability, you simply multiply these probabilities together. Thus, the overall probability is 2/3*4/11*7/10*1/3*3/4=7/156

to find the answer to part a, you do the exact same thing as for part c. Take the probabilities step by step, and then multiply them all together.

well, how would u set it up for a?

see above.
