HELP :) Explain how soaps lower the surface tension of the fats and oils ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

soap is made up of long chain of acid, it has hydrophobic & hydroplic ends for dirt claensing action

OpenStudy (anonymous):

soaps and detergents are primarily surfactants,A surfactant lowers surface tension because it has both hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties. which could be produced easily from petrochemicals. Surfactants lower the surface tension of water, essentially making it 'wetter' so that it is less likely to stick to itself and more likely to interact with oil and grease
