Solve 5+8i-4+2i

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Simply add/subtract the real and imaginary parts separately and express in "a+ib" form!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 1+10i?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

^that's right

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

yeah correct-o!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wat about i7? 7 is an exponent

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

you mean \(\iota^7\) right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i guess

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

okay do you know that i^2 =-1, i^3=-i, i^4=1, i^5=i again, i^6=-i... and so on? what would i^7 be according to this trend?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

here's a hint for you!! if the exponent is odd (except for 3) the answer is -i if the exponent is even (other than 2) the answer is 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohk so its -i

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

yes -i!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohk thnx!

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

anytime!
