pre and post synaptic neurons please explain, i thought dendrites axon and cell body were part of neuron? ---definition i found -a neuron to the cell body or dendrite of which an electrical impulse is transmitted across a synaptic cleft by the release of a chemical neurotransmitter from the axon terminal of a presynaptic neuron.----doesnt make sense to me.

I'd recommend watching this video (and possibly the other Kahn Academy videos on the same topic): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tbq-KZaXiL4 A short explanation is just that the presynaptic neuron is on one side of the synapse (the side sending the signal) and the postsynaptic neuron is on the other side (the side receiving the signal) but you'll find it much easier to understand if you watch the video.

Dendrites, axons, and cell body are apart of the neuron.

A synaptic clef is the gap where the chemical neurotransmitters are sent to other neurons and or throughout the body. Note: the axon terminal is on the neuron and is where the neurotransmitters are sent through. It is essentially the pathway for neurotransmitters. Hope this helps! :)
