Nitric Acid reacts with potassium hydroxide as follows: HNO3 + KOH -> KNO3 + H2O In one experiment a student placed 55.0 mL of 1.3 M HNO3 in a coffee-cup calorimeter, noted the temperature was 23.5 ad added 55.0 mL of 1.3M KOH. After quickly stirring the mixture with a thermometer, its temperature was seen to ride to 31.8 degrees Celsius. Calculate the heat of this reaction in joules. Assume that the specific heats of all solutions were 1.00 J/g degrees Celsius. Calculate the heat of reaction per mole of acid using units of kJ per mole.
