A bicyclist is riding on a path modeled by the functions f(x) = 0.08x, when x and f(x) are measured in miles. Find the rate of change of elevation at x = 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take derivative 0.08x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got it, i got the answer to be .08 as rate of change, and change in elevation is .16 mi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, it is .08 constant through out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does that mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its just .08 mi as answeR?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since " i got the answer to be .08 as rate of change" it does not depend on x

OpenStudy (shane_b):

In case it's not clear: \[y=mx+b\]m is the slope (rate of change) and b is the y-intercept. In your question, \[y=(0.08)x+0\] The rate of change, regardless of the value of x, will be 0.08 since the slope doesn't change on a line.
