OpenStudy (anonymous):

Select two different groups from the periodic table & describe all the characteristics that make the elements in the group similar. Create a fictitious element. Does it fit in one of the two groups you selected? Why or why not?

OpenStudy (stephstar101):

Group 18, better known as the noble gases, are a group of elements that have a full outer shell and will therefore not have a tendency to react. Elements in this group are inert and gaseous, which is why they're called the noble gases. Group 17, called the halogens, are a peculiar class of nonmetals. All halogens have 7 valence elections, making them EXTREMELY reactive (especially with Group 1 and 2). Halogens have high electronegativities and vary in physical properties. I'm not making up an element, that's up to you. To make your life easier, pick a group I just defined and have an element fit that description rather than make up a whole new thing.
