I did this experiment where I burned magnesium (Mg+O2). I know that the chemical reaction for this is synthesis but, my lab report asked "The reactions you conducted can actually be categorized as TWO different types of reactions. Which reaction is this, and what are the two types of reactions?". What is the second reaction and what are they categorized as?

Redox. The magnesium metal is oxidized, and the atmospheric oxygen (O2) is reduced.

This is my response to the question. We didn't learn about redox but, I researched it and that makes sense. "In the final experiment, burning magnesium, synthesis and redox are the reactions. Redox is a chemical change that affects the element’s oxidation state."
