Remember that\[tangent=\frac{opposite}{adjacent}\] So you can set up this problem as\[\tan(52^o)=\frac{x}{35}\] and then solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did 35(tan(52)) but I got -211.86 for my answer, which doesn't seem right...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Firstly find the z angle: z = 180 - 90 - 52 = 38 Now use: \[\tan \theta = \frac{Perpendicular}{Base}\] \[\tan(38) = \frac{35}{x}\] \[x = \frac{35}{\tan(38)}\] Now solve for x..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok I did that, but I got 112.79, which isn't the right answer...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\tan(38) = 0.78\] So, \[x = \frac{35}{0.78} = 44.87\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm.. that's weird. I typed that into my calc but I got a different answer. But your answer is right :)
