A circle is shown on the coordinate plane below.
What is the equation of this circle?
(x + 1)2 + y2 = 2
(x – 1)2 + y2 = 4
(x + 1)2 + y2 = 4
(x – 1)2 + y2 = 2

centre is (-1,0) radius is 2 units.........now can you find the equation????
OpenStudy (anonymous):
D?
OpenStudy (amistre64):
you should prolly brush up on what a general circle equation looks like
\[(x-C_x)^2+(y-C_y)^2=r^2\]
OpenStudy (amistre64):
so, swap signs in the center parts, and square the radius to fit

So its B ?
OpenStudy (amistre64):
b still has a -1 in it; try c :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x coordinate is -1.....y coordinate of centre is 0
radius is 2
plug in the equation
\[(x-(-1))^{2}+(y-(0))^{2}=2^{2}\]
\[(x+1)^{2}+(y)^2=4\]

C,
