okay, how about an example. find the LCM of a^2b^2 and a^4b^4 Let's assume a is 2 and b is 3 so we have 2^2*3^2 and 2^4*3^4 Which becomes 4*9 and 16*81 We won't multiply so as to keep them separate. the least common multiple in the case of 4 and 16 is 16 the least common multiple in the case of 9 and 81 is 81 therefore the LCM is 16*81 which rolls back to being a^4b^4 Does that make it simpler?
