The figure below shows Mikail’s semi-circular patio. The shaded region represents the tiled portion of the patio. The width of the tiled portion is 1.5 feet. What is the area of the tiled portion of the patio, rounded to the nearest whole square foot? 59 29 44 70

First find the radius. 52/2 = 27 r = 27 Now subtract the width of 1.5 r = 25.5 That gives you the radius of the smaller circle. Now find the area using the two radii. \[A = πr^2\]After that, subtract the 2 areas and divide by 2.

\[A_{Answer} = \frac{A_{1} - a_{2}}{2}\]

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

area of the 'outer' semicircle = 0.5 * pi * 7^2 the radius of inner circle is 7 - 1.5/2 = 6.25 area of inner circle = 0.5 * pi * 6.2^2 subtract outer area from inner any you have area of the path

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

** sorry - the radius of the inner semicircle is 7 - 1.5 = 5.5 so area of inner = 0.5 * pi * 5.5^2

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

calc - where did you get 52 from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. I meant to say 54. 54 ÷ 2 = 27 which is what I should have up there.
