OpenStudy (istim):

Using acid-base table, determine the Kb for the nitrite ion.

OpenStudy (istim):

First, is this related to pH?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

acid+base-------->Salt+Water

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did u got answer?

OpenStudy (istim):

Is it nitric or nitrous?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nitric ion is base. It means it has pH of greater than 7.

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

@muhammad9t5 : "nitric ion" does not exist, you should use "nitrate ion".

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

"nitric" is actually 'nitric acid' \(HNO_3\) ; its conjugate base is the 'nitrate ion' \(NO_3^-\) 'Nitrous acid' is \(HNO_2\) and its conjugate base is the 'nitrite ion' \(NO_2^-\) So, the Kb you are looking for should be the equilibrium constant of the reaction of the nitrite ion with water: \(NO_2^-+H_2O→HNO_2+OH^−\) CAREFUL : there is a mistake in the table provided by washington.edu formula for nitrite ion was badly written as the formula for the nitrate ion. It should read \(\huge NO_\color{red}2^-\)
