OpenStudy (dariyana):

In △JKL, solve for x. 66.73 74.89 15.44 38.16

OpenStudy (dariyana):

OpenStudy (dariyana):

just the answer please

OpenStudy (angela210793):

how would you know it's the right answer if we don't show how we got that? O.o

OpenStudy (dariyana):

well i already try to firgure it out and got 74.89 so iam ttrying to see if someone else got the same answer

OpenStudy (dariyana):

@lawrenceh123

OpenStudy (angela210793):

can u show me how u got that? please?

OpenStudy (dariyana):

lol tan(27) = 34/x tan(27)(x) = 34 x = 34/(tan(27) The answer is 66.73. i meant to say

OpenStudy (dariyana):

but then again i think it 74.89

OpenStudy (angela210793):

that looks fine :) and I'm sorry if I was annoying..:( i thought u wanted just the answer :S

OpenStudy (dariyana):

it ok girl but is it 74.89 or the 66.73

OpenStudy (angela210793):

well..i didn't do the calculations cause Idk wht's tan27...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The tangent function of an angle of a right triangle is defined to be the ratio of the opposite leg to the adjacent leg. tan 27 = 34/x tan 27 / 1 = 34 / x tan (27) * x = 34 x = 34/ [tan (27)] x = 66.728 approx or 66.73

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

in a right triangle , the side just forward of an angle is its perpendicular.so, 27=perpendicular x=hypotenuse

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

use Pythagoras theorem to find the base \[b=\sqrt{x^2-27^2}\]

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

solve this for base & then plug the value of base in the Pythagoras theorem to find the value of x:)

OpenStudy (dariyana):

ok and what did you get when you solved @jiteshmeghwal9

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

Dude i have gave u only tips i haven't find the solution

OpenStudy (dariyana):

wow you dont have to be rude i was just asking

OpenStudy (dariyana):

@jiteshmeghwal9

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

noooo ! dude i amn't ruding to u. i m only telling to u

OpenStudy (dariyana):

ok tht fine but please stop calling me dude though thanks :) @jiteshmeghwal9

OpenStudy (angela210793):

@jiteshmeghwal9 :O how did u do that O.o

OpenStudy (angela210793):

@amistre64 will u pleaaaaaaase take a look at this? :)

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

the angle just forward of a angle is known as the perpendicular of the given right angled triangle

OpenStudy (amistre64):

hi dari, for starters, thanks for keeping this pleasant ... and we do not really like to just give out answers; there is no study value in only an answer. but onto the question

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the definition of sine is: over/hyp

OpenStudy (amistre64):

sin(27) = 34/x x = 34/sin(27)

OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):

so i let the side just forward of angle 27 be the perpendicular & then find the base of the triangle & then plug the value of base in the Pythagoras theorem to solve for 'x'.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

also, hyps are greater in value than either leg, so we can weed out those that are less than 34

OpenStudy (angela210793):

Thank u Amistre :D

OpenStudy (amistre64):

since 45 degrees creates equal legs, the other leg is greater than 34 so we can weed out the values that are less that 2*34 = 68

OpenStudy (amistre64):

or do i have that backwards? lol ugh

OpenStudy (angela210793):

lol :D @amistre64 I suppose ur always right so I don't pay much attention of what u write :D :P

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the sum of 2 sides is greater than the remainig side hmm, .... never mind that route :) x = 34/sin(27) is your best shot

OpenStudy (amistre64):

27 is almost 30 degrees; and i know a 30-60-90 has sides of 2-1-sqrt(3) the 1 scales to 34 so the hyp is 2*34 = 68|dw:1343844116324:dw| a smaller angle up top means that the hypot needs to strech; so its bigger than 68
