OpenStudy (australopithecus):

Determine the change in length of a 20-m railroad track made of steel if the temperature is changed from -15C to +35C. (α= 1.1*10^(-5)) I just used for formula ΔL = α(Li)ΔT Lf = (1.1*10^-5)(20)(50) + 20 = 20.011m did I do something wrong, the changes seems pretty negligible

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

what are the units of \(\alpha\)?

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

they are given as /C lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it is correct. The Change in lengths due to temperature a small bucause of the low coefficient of thermal expansion.

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

when you put it that way it makes sense thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

good work
