compare and contrast a condensation reaction with a hydrolysis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A condensation reaction is a chemical reaction in which two molecules come together to form one othe molecule with the loss of a small molecule such as water, hydrogen chloride, acetic acid or methanol. In contrast a hydrolysis involves a water molecule in the splitting of a larger molecule into two smaller ones eg a peptide into two smaller ones by hydrolysing the amide bond between two amino acids. Similarities: both reactions occur in the human body and both reactions have to do with water. Diffs: Dehydration reactions are also known as condensation reactions. Basically, water is removed to join two molecules together. Hydrolysis is simply the opposite. A water molecule is added to break apart two molecules.
