I'm so lost. Find f(w)-f(x)/(w-x) and simplify as much as possible when f(x)=3x^2-5. Please explain how to do this, I want to be able to do it on my own.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I assume f(w)=3w^2-5, or else the question would be a little redundant.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{3w^2-5-(3x^2-5)}{w-x}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer in my book says 3w+3x but i have no idea how to get to there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[3\frac{w^2-x^2+0}{w-x}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does that help? Think about it: if (w-x) is in the denominator, then if you factor out (w-x) in the numerator, you can cancel and make the denominator =1.

yea that makes a lot of sense ok thanks! i'm gonna try out the others on my own now

Excellent!
