What is the difference between –OH and OH-

OH¯ suggests that it is a hydroxyl ion. OH¯+ H = H2O. -OH suggests that it is a hydroxyl group that is attached to something else .. like a carbon chain. CH3-OH.

In -OH, the dash represents a bond, in OH- a negative charge.
