OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

A Charge \[+10^{-19}C\] is located at the origin in free space and another charge Q at (2,0,0). If the x-component of the electric field at (3,1,1) is zero, calculate the value of Q. & one more question: - Is the y-component zero at (3,1,1)?

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

@experimentX Please help:)

OpenStudy (experimentx):

calculate the field at that point ... and also angle with respect to x axis

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

i don't know how to calculate angle:(

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

is there any formula?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

this is just geometry ... draw picture.

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

i did now wt should i do?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

oh .. .sorry

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

I found E at P due to 10^-19 C & it is (8.1 x 10^-11N/C) & E at P due to Q is (3Q x 10^9 N/C) I just calculated these.

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

E = Electric Field.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

find the direction cosines ... multiply the field by direction cosines.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

equate them.

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

Wt is this direction cosine & how to find them?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direction_cosine just alpha of both

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

"this direction cosine stuff is really tough" would u plz make me understand by finding first part's electric field's direction cos?

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

I mean this one's E at P due to 10^-19 C & it is (8.1 x 10^-11N/C)

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

I would do the next one:)

OpenStudy (experimentx):

try to find the -alpha- direction cosines of the coordinates 000 to 311 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rusI0oWFSJw

OpenStudy (experimentx):

3-0 ----- length of the 311 to 000

OpenStudy (maheshmeghwal9):

I found the direction cosine of 3,1,1 & it is |dw:1346994901288:dw| @experimentX :)
