OpenStudy (bimbim2697):

Water is a pure substance and table salt is a pure substance, so seawater is inherently a pure substance Is the aforementioned statement true or false? Justify in each circumstance.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I feel like it wouldn't be, because adding two pure substances creates a new substance in itself, which isn't necessarily a pure substance, if that makes sense.

sam (.sam.):

You are talking about seawater or saltwater? if its seawater there will be some impurities in it.

OpenStudy (bimbim2697):

salt water

OpenStudy (bimbim2697):

@ question error ---- -seawater should be saltwater

sam (.sam.):

You can't form any other products here, \[NaCl + H_2O \rightarrow NaOH + HCl\] Since the reverse reaction is almost 100%. NaOH is a strong base, and HCl is a strong acid, and the mixture of the two is an irreversible reaction, forming NaCl and H2O.

OpenStudy (bimbim2697):

Huh? Lol Im Lost..

OpenStudy (bimbim2697):

All I wanna know is if the statement is true or false And Why?

sam (.sam.):

You can say its true. Because it doesn't form any other compounds chemically.
