what are the 3 types of catalyst?
1) Heterogeneous catalysts; 2) Homogeneous catalysts; 3) Electrocatalysts; 4) Organocatalysis
The only real way to divide at catalysts into only three groups is to cover separate them as a positive catalysts, negative catalyst, and auto-catalyst. A positive catalyst increases the activation energy which decreases the rate or speed of the reaction. A negative catalyst decreases the activation energy which increases the rate or speed of thee reaction. An auto-catalyst starts slows and the reaction continues itself based on the products formed....thus it becomes automatic.
Catalysts can be either heterogeneous or homogeneous, depending on whether a catalyst exists in the same phase as the substrate. Biocatalysts (enzymes) are often seen as a separate group.
(i) Positive, (ii)Negative (iii)Auto
(i) Positive catalyst: The catalyst increases the rate of a reaction. (ii) Negative catalyst : Chemical reactions are sometimes retarded by the presence of a foreign substance the substance is known as a negative catalyst. (iii) Auto catalysis: In this type of catalysis, one of the products of the reaction catalyses the reaction.
