how many electrons does a clorine atom have and how are they are they positioned? please help I'm new at this

Start by looking at the periodic table. What number is Chlorine. 17. This means that Chlorine has 17 protons. The number of electrons is always equal to the number of proteins unless you have an anion or cation.... which we dont in this case. So 17 electrons. How are they positioned? Chlorine's electrons follow the general rule that the inner circle has 2 electrons and each orbit after that has 8 until you have run out of electrons. |dw:1347272964932:dw|
