Complex Numbers question...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[i\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[j \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[i\] is clearly current

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[e^{(– b + ia) } = (3 ± \sqrt{8} ) e^{i(π/ 2 + 2nπ)}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i get why a = pi/2 but why does b = 3+/-sqrt(8)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure what you're trying to do here...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you mean \[b=-\ln|3 \pm \sqrt{8}|\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

introducing ln we get \[-b+ia=\ln(3+\sqrt{8})+i(\pi/2+2\pi*r)\] the part inside cant be - cos ln is >0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait \[\sqrt{8}<3\]
