How do you determine the charge of an atoms/ions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By looking at the number of protons and electrons. Protons have a positive charge and electrons have a negative charge. So if an atom has 15 protons and 14 electrons it will have a positive charge. If an atom has 14 protons and 15 electrons it will have a negative charge. Of course if an atom has 15 protons and 15 electrons then it has a neutral or no charge.
