Reaction prediction Hydrogen sulfide gas is bubbled into a solution of mercury(II) chloride The answer is: H2S + HgCl2 -> HgS + H (+1) + Cl (-1) I thought it was be: H2S + HgCl2 -> HgS + HCl So why does it not form HCl?

i suppose HCl would indicate gaseous form of the acid . As its an aqueous solution hydrogen and chloride ions would be formed
