I don't understand what they are asking. 4 protons, 2 electron Express your answer as an ion.

if an atom had been formed with 4 protons and 2 electrons, what would its elemental symbol be with what charge.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

say an atom was formed with 1 proton and 2 electrons 1 proton in the nucleus is always a Hydrogen atom. if it had 2 electrons, it would have 2 negative charges. since the proton is positive, the total charge would be a negative one (+1 and -2) therefore its ion would be H^- what element has 4 protons, and if it had only 2 electrons what would its charge be **note that charge is written as a superscript, that is as an exponent**
