1) Is water being polar a chemical or physical property of water?? 2) Is water being known as the universal solvent a chemical or physical property of water? Thanks!! i'm a bit confused... and please explain or give a source!! :D Thank you!!!

Both properties are chemical; you can refer to this handy little chart for explanations: http://www.accessexcellence.org/RC/VL/GG/waterProps1.php Part two is here: http://www.accessexcellence.org/RC/VL/GG/waterProps2.php

They don't go into too much detail, but any introductory chemistry text book would be able to make things clearer for you.

I think water being polar is a physical property. It says nothing about the chemical reactivity of water, and you don't need to run a chemical reaction to measure it. It's ability to be a solvent is a little trickier, because people sometimes think of dissolution as a chemical reaction. I don't think it is, because no electrons actually change orbitals (unless you've actually got some hydrolysis reactions going on). So I personally wouldn't call dissolution a chemical reaction, and therefore I wouldn't call water's ability to dissolve many things a chemical property either.
