A slice of pizza has 500 kcal. If we could burn the pizza and use all the heat to warm a 50-L container of cold water, what would be the approximate increase in the temperature of the water? (Note: a liter of water weighs about 1kg.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

heat = mass x specific heat x temp change rearranging the equation yields: temp change = heat/(mass x specific heat) specific heat of water is 1.0 cal/g°C temp change = 500,000cal/(50,000g x 1cal/g°C) temp change = 1°C
