AP chemistry question?? (Acid-Base Reactions)? Which of the following solutions is the most basic? a) 0.6M NH3 b) 0.150 M KOH c) 0.100 M Ba(OH)2
i know the answer but i do not get it i found it on this website http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100811113444AAn6rsT
@oOKawaiiOo can u plz help me in this one?
Its C........ since there is 2 moles of -OH per molecule
wait i do not get it how did u get that do u need to do any calculations or something to all of them in order to find out which is the most basic because tehy are all bases but what is the most basic that is the part that i do not know
@oOKawaiiOo
Ummmm u can do some calculations. 0.100 M of Ba(OH)2 vs 0.150M KOH 1/10 of a liter of Ba(OH)2 has 0.2 moles of -OH 1.5/10 of a liter of KOH has 0.1 moles of -OH If you add 3 Liters of each concentrations, in the Ba(OH)2, there will be 0.6 moles of -OH. In KOH, there will be 0.45 moles of -OH. The more -OH in solution at the same volume, means more basic.
so what do u do for the nh3
@oOKawaiiOo
NH3 is a weak base...... As I learned it, ammonia is a weak base with pka value around 8-9
i got it NH3 is a weak electrolyte so it is not a strong base
yupppp.
ok then thanku :)
@oOKawaiiOo here
can u plz show me how u found the number of moles of OH in KOH ?
@oOKawaiiOo
if the concentration of the compound was .150 M of KOH It means .150 moles of K and .150 moles of OH
oh ok then thanku
