URGENT PLEASE HELP!!A 3.00 gram mixture of methane and ethane were allowed to burn in an excess of oxygen.  The released CO2 was captured and its mass was determined to be 8.58 grams.  How many grams of methane were in the mixture?

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

Figure out how many mols of CO2 that is and since you have one carbon per mol of CO2 you can convert that to grams of carbon. Then figure out mole fractions in methane and ethane. Make an algebraical equation out of that and solve for the amount of methane.

Forgot to tell you before this you should try to write out and balance the chemical equation unless it told you everything was 1 to 1 to 1.
