state why argon is used in light bulbs.explain your awnser in terms of electronic structure of an argon atom

sam (.sam.):

Argon because it is an inert gas. To prevent air molecules reacting with the filament (oxidizing) , you have to surround it with noble gases, as you know noble gases are inert, they do not react easily. Argon is used because it suits the temperature required for the intensity of light. Higher temperature requirements of filament lamps requires heavier noble gases such as Xenon. Xenon is used mostly on flash lamps because flash produces large amount of energy in mili to micro seconds.
