OpenStudy (zeesbrat3):

Can you make a diagram for me to show how chlorine and hydrogen form from the compound hydrogen chloride, HCI?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are only two atoms involved... what do you think?

OpenStudy (zeesbrat3):

Im not much for a science person, but I think its either an ionic or covalent bond, isnt it? @Calliope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Covalent, I believe.

OpenStudy (zeesbrat3):

Because it wants me to show its compound?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You really just have to join the two atoms together... that's all. And pay attention to how many electrons they have in their outer shells, if those need to be drawn in too.

OpenStudy (zeesbrat3):

would it be like 18 protons? Because hydrogen only has 1 as its atomic and chlorine with 17 as its atomic? Im just really confused on how to draw it combined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hm, or maybe it is ionic since it's chlorIDE. Doesn't really make a difference, though.

OpenStudy (zeesbrat3):

nevermind, I screwed up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Chloride tells you that the Cl-atom has a negative partial charge. So its a polar bound.

OpenStudy (zeesbrat3):

would it like like this? |dw:1349041804188:dw|
