A=student is female B=student is majoring in Business The probability a business major is female P(B|A) The probability a female student is majoring in business P(A|B) correct?
Ermm, I think those are backwards, actually. B|A is read, "of B given A."
elaborate. My book agrees with you, but I still don't understand why I'm wrong.
For "The probability a business major is female" - you're looking for the probability of being female. That the person is a business major is already given.
"The probability a business major is female" -given: person is a business major so B is given Therefore I say of "female" given "business major"
hhhmm....I guess that makes sense.
Yep, these are called 'conditional probabilities;' you need to determine what the given condition is and that goes after the |.
Thank you!
