Why is water neutral on the ph scale

OpenStudy (aaronq):

water has the same concentration of dissociated H+ and OH- ions. H2O -> OH- + H+ both [OH] and [H+] are equal to 1 x 10^-7 pH=-log[H+] =-log(1 x 10^7) = 7 which is neutral
