Chemistry Question: Which of the following elements has two valence electrons? -Sr<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since valence electrons are those in the most outer shell of any element, I would say you chose the correct one!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay! I thought so but for some reason, I was thinking Na, Sodium, because I couldn't remember if it had 1 or 2 valence electrons, but I'm pretty sure it only has one... Thanks for your help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah sodium actually only has 1!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, thanks again!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your correct ;D it is sr ;D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, thanks! I'm gonna be posting some more, do u think could u help me with those as well?

Carbon has an atomic number of 6, but the following orbital notation for carbon is incorrect. Explain the error in terms of the rules for electron arrangements.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure ill help ;D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Electrons repel each other, since they have like charges. You put them in different orbitals if at all possible, since that keeps them naturally further apart, and lowers the energy of the electron configuration. You only start doubling them up when you must.

I have read that one before, the link wont open properly

well thats the explaination and the picture should be like this |dw:1349193339649:dw|
