why is (3, 2) an intercept?
no thats wrong
when i tried to solve it i got x=3/2+/-sqrt of -1.75
but i cant have a negative inside a square root right?
when looking for x intercepts, set y=0, solve for x when looking for y intercepts, set x=0, solve for y correct, you can't have a negative inside a square root.... that's what happened when you set y=0 and tried to solve for x, is that correct?
You should look at the graph. Notice the circle does not touch or cross the x-axis so there are no x intercepts. It looks like there is one y intercept
yep... ^^^ no x intercepts coincides with you getting a negative in the square root...
but i cant have a negative inside a square root right? as dpalnc notes, the sqrt of a neg number means the curve never crosses the x-axis
