Why did bohrs observations of gaseous elements not reveal a complete spectrum when the light was shone through a prism? explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Bohr model suggested that electrons could only have defined energy levels and so when decaying back to a lower energy level release a certain amount of energy. Since the amount of energy could be converted to a certain frequency then distinct emission lines were seen in the electromagnetic spectrum. The other theories could not explain the emission lines: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohr_model
