Explain why the quantum number set (3, 3, -2, +½) is not possible for an electron in a ground-state atom.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

again as in last question i would like you to refer to same book and same page!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

n, l, ml, ms n= 1.... l= from 0 (n-1) ml= -l ... +l ms= +1/2 or - 1/2 so now what do you think which answer is right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no! if n= 3 than l= 0 , 1, 2 !!!! (n-1 !!!)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you downloaded that book go to page 283 and there you have a simple table and you will be clear about this! ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so It is not possible because, if n is 3 than l is 0 , 1, 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep!

listen to me, i have been known to study 3 days without a sleep and believe me that it will all fall in its place after some sleep! i suggest you to take at least 3-5 hour sleep if you are under pressure and 5-12 hour sleep if you have time cause your brain cant process that much information at a time! only if you have eidetic memory than just continue... ;)
