The sets of solutions given are in (x,y) form. The first, (1,2), plugged into the inequality y < -x + 4 becomes 2<-1+4 which is very true. Meaning that (1,2) is a solution and that you need to try the next set, and so on until you find something like 2<1 which is not true.
