Can someone please help me with this homework problem I am stuck on. Simplify the expression (k1/4)^-6/(k^9)^1/2
not following... the equation I am trying to write is here is not easy for me. Let me try again. A fraction. Variable (K next to 1/4) to the power of -6 (the numerator), now the denom. variable (K to the ^9th power) to the ^ 1/2 power.
Well , this is my problem... I am totally lost on these type of problems. I need serious help.
I have been trying to follow my in class notes, look on line and I can't seem to figure it out.

ok... so how do I figure out 1/4 to the power of -6
well in the equation that is given to me the numerator (top) reads (K 1/4)^-6
K 1/4 doesn't make any sense !

yep that is what it says... a variable in front of 1/4 on the numerator to the ^-6
says to simplifly, assume that all variables are posittive

= -6/4 = -3/2 Always keep fraction form :)
= 1/ [ k^(9/2) * k^( 3/2) ]
Now, since both terms have the same base K : add the exponents together!

Now pay attention to get rid of negative sign, by moving the whole term down to the denom.
I apologize. I did read what you wrote. to me it just looks like you are multiplying the two. = 1/ [ k^(9/2) * k^( 3/2) ] Correct?

I've been in excellerated courses for Algebra I and II over the past almost 10 wks now. Havn't had math in over 20+ yrs... I've very rusty. It was never a subject a liked. I'm struggling. Passed the 1st class with a C. I'll be happy if I can do the same with this class. Thanks again.

I know! but it's part of the Univ. of Phoenix program. I guess I could have gone to regular JC but it would cost me. I'm on a GI Bill. Every penny not spent helps ;-)

The exponent concept actually belongs to pre algebra, the teacher probably will just skim over it!
Well for this class maybe. The other classes I've learned quite a bit. I think it boils down to what your interests are and where your strenghts are as well. You have to do the work, bottom line
I think the bigger problem is I hate math. I keep trying to stay positive. I go to tutoring on mid week, then I blank out on quiz time =(
yesterday I was in my office all damn day working on 20 lousy problems
I just now am going back to work. Got a p/t job starting in a week.
before that I was working full time 60 hrs a week and had to quit cuz it was too much with school

well, I have 10 problems to work on today. Then my goal is to work on more study notes for tomorrows quiz in class. Then pray tonight that I don't bomb it! More Khan videos to watch ;-)
