Many gases are shipped in high-pressure containers. Consider a steel tank whose volume is 55.0 gallons and which contains O2 gas at a pressure of 16,500 kPa at 23 degrees C. What is the mass of O2 in the tank in g? What volume would the gas occupy at STP in liters? At what temperature would the pressure in tank equal 1.55 atm? What would be the pressure of the gas, in kPA, if it were transferred to a container at 24 degrees C, whose volume is 55.0 L ?
@oOKawaiiOo or @Sheng
i know how to do the first part abut do not knwo how to continue i got help from the following website http://nz.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081120174111AA9cYkf
that website has DIFFERENT numbers but it si the same problem
hai
hi
yea lol no idea srry :_(
can you help me?
it is ok thanku and maybe i can help u let me look over ur question
assuming an equal amount of surface area , which will have a faster temperature rise on a sunny day? a lake or land
What's the number of moles you got?
i got 11802.04g for O2
i used n= mass/ molar mass and subtitute it in the eqaution PV= nRT ---> PV= mRT/ molar mass (M)
n is the number of moles
\[PV=nRT \\ \\ n=\frac{PV}{RT} \\ \\ n=\frac{(16500)(208.2)}{(8.31)(296.2)}=1396 moles\] So, \[1396moles \times \frac{2(16)g}{1mole}=44672g~O_2\]
can u plz convert kpa to atm so i would make sure from my answer
convert 16500kpa to atm and also use R= 0.08206 L atm / k mol
1kPa=0.009869atm
then what
it is ok u do not have to use the same number just plz show me how u do part b i just need the method not the work
At Standard Temperature Pressure, T=273.3 K P=1 atm (101.3 kPa) Use these values instead of the first 2 values in PV=nRT
ok and for the moles what do i use ?
The one you calculated
ok then and what about c
do i use the volume found in part b with the given pressure of 150
It says the pressure in tank equal 1.55 atm, so at that pressure the temperature is: Since the volume and moles is given, PV=nRT You can work out the temps here.
i use the volume and moles that i found in the earlier parts right?
yes
and just to make sure for part d i use the given temp. and volume, with numbers of moles that i found earlieer right?
@.Sam.
for d, use the given 24 degrees C, 55.0 L, and the values you calculated .
by 'the values you calculated' u mean for number of moles right ?
yes
@.Sam.
ok thanku so much for ur assistance :)
